Congratulations to the TISA award winners

We wish to congratulate Ms. Cathy Lai Wa Yuen from RMIT for being awarded the Industry prize sponsored by Charles Parsons at TISA 2013 National Student Design and Technology Awards.

This year’s Awards attracted 31 exceptional entrants from a range of educational institutes in VIC, NSW, and WA, as well as from New Zealand. The judging panel was comprised of five Textile Clothing & Footwear industry (TCF) leaders with a wide range of industry experience.

While the judging panel reported that the calibre of all entrants was impressively high, they all agreed that the twelve finalists short-listed showed exceptional qualities of innovation and commercial viability in meeting the Awards competition brief.

The description of Cathy’s entry was:  “Architecture design, the geometric shape and construction have been achieved with laser cutting to create dramatic effect on textile. Laser cutting technology cut the pattern piece precisely and intricately. The edge of the seam is laser cut in hexagon pattern which allow the seam to interlock each other, making construction of garment as closure as well as decoration.”

At Charles Parsons we believe that it is our responsibility to support the younger generation, transfer our knowledge and experience to them and give them the opportunities to learn. By supporting the students, we support the future of the textile industry in Australia and New Zealand.

We are glad that we could assist Cathy in furthering her future career in garment design.
